This isn’t an introduction.

It’s a welcome here. To this space. My space, that I want to share with you. What’s in an introduction anyway? I find whenever I’m asked to introduce myself, I’m scrambling to find the most significant things to say. What I end up with though, is vanilla. Boring. Typical.

“Hi my name is Abby, I’m 35 years old. I’m a mother of 2 kids. I love music and art. “

See what I mean? Vanilla. The problem with introductions, is it really doesn’t say shit. It reminds me that I’m very much “normal” in that way. I consider myself to be far from normal though, way more complex. Whether or not that makes me interesting, is a whole other story though. What can we really conclude about someone in an introduction? Nothing. I guess that’s why I’m here. To figure that part out.

Think about it, if we were put in a situation where our introductions about ourselves defined us and were conclusive, what would you really say? I get that an introduction is not really a way to get to know any one beyond the surface. It’s MEANT to be surface. What I hate though, is being just that. SURFACE. On the outside. I get shy. Someone asks me to introduce myself, and well let’s face it, refer to the above. It makes me feel silly. Yes I am Abby. Yes I am 35. Yes I am a mom. Yes I love music and art. But I also have experiences and stories to tell. Don’t you? Of course you do. Now we find why YOU are here. Why WE are here together. This isn’t my space anymore. It’s yours too.

Hi, my name is Abby. Get to know me. I wanna get to know you too.

  1. Hi I’m Joanne. Thank you for inviting me into this space. I’m excited to see how things progress and be a part of this process and experience with you! Love you Abby!
